IRS Reinstates Americans For Truth About Homosexuality as 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Organization

We are happy to report that Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) has been reinstated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.  This means that all donations to Americans For Truth are fully tax-deductible under U.S. law.

The effective, retroactive date of exemption provided by the IRS is December 28, 2011. Thus all donation made to AFTAH from that date onward can be deducted in donor’s annual tax filings.

The IRS action reestablishes AFTAH as a non-profit “public charity” with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status identical to countless other charitable and educational organizations.

The IRS letter, dated September 23, 2012, but received Friday by our attorney, states in part:

“We are pleased to inform you that upon review of your application for tax exempt status we have determined that you are exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to you are deductible under section 170 of the Code. You are also qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code.”

“Gay” Propaganda, “Gay” Lies
After AFTAH’s exemption was revoked last year — for failing to submit the required paperwork — homosexual activists exploited the situation with headlines like this: “Hate group ‘Americans for Truth About Homosexuality’ loses tax-exempt status.” A few homosexual activists insinuated – falsely and absurdly – that the IRS action was somehow linked to our designation by the leftist Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a supposed “hate group.”

Of course, AFTAH is NOT a “hate group.” We and other pro-family groups similarly slandered reject the pro-homosexual SPLC’s “hate” classification as a crass attempt to marginalize and discredit Americans For Truth and the leading pro-family groups opposed to LGBT activism.

(The SPLC has never designated a homosexual activist organization or website as “hateful” — including the Chicago-based Gay Liberation Network – even after GLN pointedly and publicly refused to condemn last year’s pro-homosexual brick attack against the Christian Liberty Academy. The brick attack targeted AFTAH and our honoree, Scott Lively, and occurred on the same day that CLA was scheduled to host Americans For Truth’s annual dinner-banquet. Hired at Starbucks?
After opposing the LGBT Lobby for two decades, I have grown accustomed to homosexual activists spreading false and scurrilous information about Americans For Truth and me (e.g. homosexual militant and SPLC ally Wayne Besen’s malicious smear against me as “Porno Pete”). Sometimes the fibs are downright silly: in the wake of last year’s IRS action — now reversed by our reinstatement as a 501(c)(3) organization — one web tale surfaced that I was forced to take a side job at Starbuck’s because contributions to AFTAH were down.

The source of this bogus “Starbucks job” story was a Tweet I had sent out while working remotely at a local Starbucks (which has free and convenient WiFi). A homosexual activist who follows me on Twitter misinterpreted my Tweet about “working at Starbucks” — i.e., on my laptop using their WiFi — as me actually being employed by the upscale coffee company. The “Starbucks job” rumor found its way to other homosexualist websites, as part of the ongoing “gay” campaign to discredit AFTAH.

As far as hateful homosexual smears go, this one was pretty tame. (Check out this awful “Truth Wins Out” post [and accompanying, mocking "Porno Pete" video], which calls me – in classic “gay” projection – a “hateful, disturbed bigot.”) Such are the hazards of fighting a Sin Movement founded upon sexual confusion and lies. God willing, Americans For Truth will remain in this battle for decades to come.
