Pro-life/pro-family advocate Jim Finnegan has fought long and hard in Illinois for "Choose Life" specialty license plates, which would raise funds for adoption. Democratic politicians, influenced by pro-abortion lobbyists, have stalled the plates for years.

This is Part One of AFTAH’s interview [listen HERE] with Jim Finnegan, a longtime pro-life and pro-family Catholic advocate in the Chicago area who is active with Defend Marriage Illinois. Finnegan is also leading the campaign for “Choose Life” specialty license plates in Illinois – thwarted for years by liberal Democrats. This interview was pre-recorded and aired February 18, 2012. Homosexual behavior is always wrong, according to the broad sweep of Judeo-Christian history, so it is tragic to behold the State of Illinois – or any government entity – recognizing immoral same-sex relationships and treating them like marriage. Moreover, for the City of Chicago and Gov. Pat Quinn to celebrate homosexuality with a mass Civil Union ceremony June 2^nd is an act of hubris and defiance toward the Creator that mocks His wonderful plan for real marriage – the sacred union of a man and a woman to produce children and family. The pandering Quinn – epitomizing the modern Democratic politician –mocks his own professed Catholicism by working tirelessly to undermine its clear moral dictates.

The anti-Christian Civil Unions law must be repealed. It was passed in a lame-duck session that once again revealed the contempt that liberal Illinois lawmakers have for the citizens they are supposed to serve. Ironically, shortly after passage of this bill – mischievously titled the Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Unions Act –religious liberty for Illinois citizens and religious institutions was immediately put in jeopardy. A homosexual male couple targeted Paxton, Illinois, bed-and-breakfast owners Jim and Beth Walder – who now face prosecution by the State because they refuse – as Christians – to hold “civil union” ceremonies celebrating homosexuality on their own business property. And the Rockford Diocese’s Catholic Charities announced that it will halt its state-funded foster care and adoption services rather than be forced by the State of Illinois to place children in same-sex households that are motherless or fatherless by design.

These sad developments in the Land of Lincoln constitute further proof that homosexuality-based “rights” and religious freedom cannot co-exist. “Gay” activism – empowered by Illinois’ “sexual orientation” law and the new Civil Unions law — will drive out the free expression of religion and morality, which must include the right to oppose sexual behavior historically regarded as disordered and sinful. Already, there are “conservative, pro-family” defeatists who argue that the radical Civil Unions bill cannot be repealed. It’s funny how “gay” activists never display such timidity. The well-financed Homosexual Lobby sees “Civil Unions” as a mere pathway to full, legalized “same-sex marriage.” We must work diligently to repeal this anti-Christian law, while also collecting 300,000 signatures to put a referendum on “same-sex marriage” on the Illinois ballot in 2012. Also, we will continue to push for House Speaker Mike Madigan to stop blocking a vote on a binding constitutional marriage amendment that will permanently prevent the radical redefinition of marriage in our state.

House Speaker Mike Madigan, a Catholic, used his considerable power to advance the homosexual agenda in Illinois by successfully pushing for a "civil unions" bill -- even though the state's Catholic Conference urged opposition to the bill.

The following e-Alert was sent out yesterday prior to the House vote. Pathetically, only two downstate Republicans, Rep. Dave Reis (Olney) and Rep. Ron Stephens (Greenville), rose on the floor to speak against this bill – which that takes a giant step toward government promotion of homosexuality in Illinois. Good for Reis and Stephens, and bad for the IL-GOP, which continues to live down to its reputation as one of the weakest Republican parties in the nation when it comes to actually fighting for the conservative GOP Platform.

We hear from a key pro-family lobbyist in Springfield that some “pro-family” legislators lied about their voting intention — saying they would vote against “civil unions” and then caving like cowards under the pressure of Mike Madigan’s and the Democrats’ lobby campaign. Now the vote goes to the Illinois Senate. TAKE ACTION: call your state senator at 217-782-2000 (see below for more info).

And so Illinois, dominated by Chicago and its corrupt Democratic machine, continues its moral descent. Land of Lincoln? In name only, as Abe Lincoln — whom some very troubled homosexual activists have tried to smear as a homosexual (it’s easy when the targeted victim is deceased) – actually revered the Bible, and thus surely respected its moral teachings — including the sinfulness of homosexual behavior and all sex outside of marriage.

Background: “Gay Marriage” by Another Name
“Civil unions” is merely the Homosexual Lobby’s false-compromise way-station to get their real prize of “gay marriage.”  SB 1716 gives all the rights and benefits of marriage to unmarried couples (homosexual or heterosexual!).  As IFI reports, pro-family and pro-life veteran Penny Pullen, a former state lawmaker and the current president of Eagle Forum of Illinois, warns that the passage of a civil unions law would:

• Force employers to grant registered same-sex cohabiters the benefits currently provided for spouses of married employees.
• Undermines the unique position which marriage holds in our society as the foundation of the family.
• Cost taxpayers by adding unrelated persons to health insurance coverage for public employees and as dependents under workers compensation benefits.
• Force employee benefit costs to rise in the private sector.
• Likely lead to mandates on schools to teach quasi-spousal relationships as equivalent to marriage (based on experience in other states).

Of course, the bill — since it covers heterosexuals — would also give guys and girls “shacking up” just one more incentive NOT to get married.  Is that sensible public policy in this era in which marriage is already in danger of becoming obsolete?  Illinois is not Denmark; we value marriage in the Heartland!
 
The ultimate irony of this capitulation to the Homosexual Lobby is that liberal activist judges in other states have used the passage of state “civil union” or “domestic partner” laws to impose the legalization of “same-sex marriage” — the very thing homosexual activist claim will NOT result from this bill.  (Wink, wink … if you believe that, then did you hear that the Democratic National Committee has just issued a public apology for its decades of advocacy against the right of unborn children to live?!  .. That’s a joke… but what’s not a joke is how the Democratic Party has become the Party of Abortion and Homosexuality.  Shame.)
 
It is the height of arrogance, yet typical in this corrupt blue state, for Democratic politicians to attempt to ram this groundbreaking bill through the legislature before Springfield becomes more Republican — and more pro-family — next year.  This is all about payback by Gov. Pat Quinn to his powerful “gay” friends and left-wing allies after his narrow election victory (which was all about the economy — not radical social experiments and the normalization of homosexuality). 
 
Let’s not let them get away with this outrageous Special Interest power grab!  Call Springfield at 217-782-2000.  If you don’t know who your representatives are, call IFI at 708-781-9328 or go to www.congress.org. 
 
Thank you for taking action on this latest threat to marriage and morality (including our children: this bill would definitely help those seeking to use our public schools to normalize homosexuality to impressionable students.   We must not let the Secular Left impose its IM-morality on the state of Illinois — by passing legislation that would result in the loss of Christians’ freedom to live out their beliefs!

A very “queer” district 

It’s no wonder that Nancy Pelosi is out of touch. As AFTAH has well documented, her hometown district, San Francisco, is so perverse, intolerant (of Christians), and extreme — even by left-wing standards – that most Americans would not believe what goes on there. For example, every Easter Sunday, a large crowd of San Franciscans gathers in Dolores Park to watch the “Hunky Jesus” contest mocking Jesus’ crucifixion. The event is MC’d by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an accepted ”charity” group in the city even though it is made up of men who dress in drag as mock “nuns,” with twisted and filthy names like Sister Roz Erection and Sister Fawn D’amen. Much like NAMBLA, if 25 “gay”-agenda-opposing conservatives got together to invent something that would hurt the image of the Homosexual Movement, they couldn’t come up anything this “queer” (or this insensitive): 

And every year in San Francisco, at two homosexual-sadism-oriented “street fairs,” men are allowed to walk around in the streets [WARNING: OFFENSIVE LINKS] fully naked (well, they do have shoes and socks on) — without fear of arrest. Some even engage in public sex acts  (see AFTAH photo at bottom): 

A strong ally of homosexual activists, Pelosi has been careful not to criticize the unprecedentedly perverse activities that go on in her hometown, America’s “gay” Mecca. Pelosi through a spokesman even dismissed an opportunity to distance herself from this shockingly distasteful and disrespectful Folsom 2007 poster mocking da Vinci’s Last Supper: 

Maybe it’s time for Nancy Pelosi to return home, study up on the Catholicism she publicly professes yet profanes [see Catholic teaching on homosexuality HERE and abortion HERE], and then try to clean up the reputation of her city. Of course, San Franciso Mayor Gavin Newsom and the city’s supervisors have a bigger role than Pelosi in restoring decency and the rule of law to the city — and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger could at least take measures to enforce anti-lewdness laws. But Pelosi could certainly use her waning yet significant influence to make healthy “change” in this debauched Sodom-by-the-Bay. 

Public sex: no big deal 

The photo below was taken by an Americans For Truth reporter who attended the (annual) Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco on Sunday, September 25, 2010. It confirms that public sex continues at the perverse “fair” despite pledges by fair organizers and the city to stop public nudity and open sex in the streets (following exposes by AFTAH and others in previous years).

In the (censored) center of the photo, a naked man is standing on the ground performing oral sex on another naked man, who is standing on the stage of a booth sponsored by ‘Steamworks,’ a local bathhouse (anonymous homosexual sex club). Dr. Kenneth Howell will continue to teach at the University of Illinois.

We are relieved that Prof. Kenneth Howell has been reinstated at the University of Illinois, but serious questions remain about the U. of I.’s secular bias against people of faith and in favor of aggressive homosexual activism. There needs to be an independent, outside investigation into how this travesty happened at a taxpayer-funded university — and the department heads and administrators who put political correctness above academic freedom and basic fairness should pay a price. If the larger problem persists of celebrating homosexuality at the expense of others’ fundamental rights, there will be many more Kenneth Howells in Illinois and across the nation.    – Peter LaBarbera, www.aftah.org

URBANA, Illinois, July 29, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Dr. Kenneth Howell, the professor barred from teaching after a student complained about his explanation of the Catholic Church’s teaching on homosexuality, in a class on Catholicism, has been reinstated by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

News spread rapidly of the censure earlier this month of Dr. Howell, whose scheduled classes next fall had been cancelled based on one student’s complaint that an email from the professor to students in the class explaining how homosexuality is incompatible with the natural moral law amounted to “hate speech.”

The university was soon deluged with opposition from within UIUC and beyond. Even the school’s Atheists, Agnostics, & Freethinkers group expressed outrage at the professor’s silencing. Howell, who had taught “Introduction to Catholicism and Modern Catholic Thought” at the university’s Department of Religion since 2001, had also taught at the school’s diocesan-run Newman Center for 12 years.

According to a UIUC statement sent to LifeSiteNews.com, the school “will continue Kenneth Howell’s adjunct appointment for the fall semester, and has offered him the opportunity to teach Religion 127, Introduction to Catholicism.”

However, the statement itself focuses on the school’s decision to pay the salary of instructors teaching Catholic studies courses. St. John’s Catholic Newman Center had previously funded the instructors.

“The university values its relationship with the Newman Center and plans to continue offering courses in Catholic studies,” stated the school. UIUC also indicated that a university committee would continue investigating the matter.

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorney who represented Howell in the case expressed cautious gratitude at the reversal. ADF had sent a letter to the University demanding that the school reverse the decision, or else face legal action.

“We are extremely pleased that the university has asked for Dr. Howell to return to the classroom,” ADF attorney David French told LifeSiteNews.com in an email Thursday afternoon, calling the move “a great victory for academic freedom, for Dr. Howell, and — crucially — for the students of the University of Illinois.” 

“The university is continuing its committee proceedings related to Dr. Howell’s case, and we’ll be carefully monitoring these proceedings to make sure that his rights are protected now and in the future,” he said.

Gay Liberation Network's Bob Schwartz supports the University of Illinois' firing of Catholic professor Kenneth Howell. Imagine how different his reaction would be if it were a "gay" professor fired for explaining "gay rights" to his students.

Will Her ‘Rights’ Replace Yours? In the world of Chai Feldblum (above), defending sodomy and homosexuality-based relationships is a “moral” endeavor. Legally speaking, she sees the battle between “gay rights” and religious/moral opposition to homosexuality as a “zero sum game” — i.e., one side wins and the other side loses. But if the “right” of homosexuals and transsexuals to have their lifestyles approved supersedes the freedom of Americans to act on their belief that homosexual behavior is wrong, then wouldn’t Christians and moral Americans become second-class citizens?

TAKE ACTION: The U.S. Senate will be taking up the Chai Feldblum nomination, probably in the next few weeks. Call and write your two U.S. senators (202-224-3121; www.congress.org) and urge them to oppose her confirmation to be a Commissioner on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Tell your Senators that you oppose awarding superior rights to people based on their homosexual, bisexual or transsexual lifestyle — which they would have if Feldblum’s radical egalitarian philosophy takes hold in the employment realm. Explain that Americans’ First Amendment liberty to follow our conscience should never be made subservient to special interest sexual agendas.

AFTAH is featured in the report below by American Family Association’s “One News Now.” about President Obama’s latest homosexual appointee: Georgetown law professor and lesbian legal activist Chai Feldblum as a commissioner at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). (Think “sexual orientation discrimination” EEOC lawsuits against businesses if Obama gets his way legislatively.)

Unlike some “gay” activists, Feldblum at least grants that we religious Americans have a legitimate “belief liberty” to oppose homosexuality. But she also asserts that according to her reading of the law and Constitution, homosexuals’ “moral” claims should usually eclipse ours under. (And please forgive me if I don’t gush over Feldblum’s recognition of our moral rights — considering that homosexual practice has been linked as a dominating causal factor for HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases, and that it ranks up there with incest, bestiality and child sacrifice in the Old Testament not-to-do list.)

If her paper trail is any indication, Feldblum will help destroy religious liberty in this country (albeit, with some exemptions; see pp. 50-55 HERE) by elevating modern, newfangled “gay rights” and “transgender rights” above our precious, foundational American freedom to live by our religious and moral convictions. Beware: Obama just made it easier for this smiling legal activist with a very “queer” understanding of morality to steal your precious American liberty, and trample over your conscience in the name of “gay equality.”

P.S. What is a homosexual activist doing teaching law at a Catholic university, anyway? Oops, I forgot: Georgetown is CINO (Catholic In Name Only); its “Catholicism” does not guide its public actions — in fact, GU profs like Feldblum actively undermine historic Church teachings. Isn’t that sort of like the “gay” vision of impotent “Christianity” that Feldblum and fellow secular activists have for faith-motivated Americans in the public square? They are redefining “core American values” to include the celebration of “gay” tolerance — and neutering our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage — through a radical egalitarian ideology that masquerades as “equality.” (Their rally cry? “Sexual liberty”!) Doesn’t it make more sense for our historic, genuine First Amendment liberties — established by a fledgling nation fleeing religious oppression in the Old World — to remain sacrosanct in the law?

President taps lesbian activist to EEOC

Chai Feldblum (Obama EEOC appointee) President Barack Obama continues to deliver on his promises to the homosexual activist community.

The president has nominated Chai Feldblum, a lesbian activist, to be commissioner for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Her appointment is awaiting Senate confirmation.

Feldblum, a law professor at Georgetown University, has signed an online petition titled, “Beyond Same-Sex Marriage: A New Strategic Vision for All Our Families and Relationships.” That petition chides conservatives for opposing same-sex “marriage” and also calls for a “new vision” for achieving recognition from the government and private sector for diverse kinds of partnerships.

“Chai Feldblum is on record saying that the battle between our religious freedoms and homosexual so-called rights is a zero sum game,” says Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality.

“She says she can’t think of a case where the religious rights — in other words, our moral right to oppose homosexuality, our First Amendment freedom — trump their gay rights. So, effectively, Chai Feldblum is for superior rights for homosexuals, and I think that’s very dangerous for our country.”
