AN AMERICANS FOR TRUTH PRESS RELEASE
CHICAGO, Illinois–The scandal of disgraced homosexual pederast and former Rep. Mark Foley illustrates the dangers of the GOP’s growing flirtation with pro-homosexual policies, said Americans For Truth President Peter LaBarbera.
“For years, we have seen some Republican Party leaders drift in a pro-homosexual direction,” LaBarbera said. “Their rationale is winning the votes of ‘moderate’ swing voters, but they forget that there is a price to pay among values voters when you abandon principle on a core moral issue.”
“Top Republican leaders knew about Foley’s homosexuality and his reckless behavior with underage boys, yet they did not act,” he said. “How long were they prepared to keep this dirty secret from the public? Is winning elections now more important to Republicans than protecting children? Is it more important than letting constituents know about a Representative’s immoral conduct, which of course influences his votes (Foley had a pro-“gay” record)?
Meanwhile, noting that the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans quickly erased a photo of Mark Foley from their website,” LaBarbera said. “Too bad Foley’s teenaged victims and their parents won’t be able to erase the effects of his twisted behavior from their minds so easily.”
He said it is telling that most of the tiny number of “outed” or openly homosexual male Congressmen have been caught in sex scandals:
- Rep. Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts), who let his male lover run a prostitution ring out of his D.C. apartment;
- Retired Massachusetts Rep. Gerry Studds (D), who had sex with a 17-year-old boy and then turned his back on fellow House Members during the censure vote against him. The defiant Studds even put the boy forward at a press conference to announce that their “relationship” was “consensual”;
- Bob Bauman (R-Maryland), who in 1980 was charged with soliciting a 16-year-old boy for sex.
“Three homosexual Congressmen have been involved in sexual seductions of minor boys, yet ‘gay’ activists ridicule anyone who suggests there is a predatory component to male homosexuality,” LaBarbera said.
Noting the re-elections of Democrats Studds and Frank after their sex scandals, he added, “Maybe Foley could make a comeback if he moves to Massachusetts and runs as a Democrat.”

Excerpted from Philly Schools Celebrate Gay History Month, by Steve Jordahl, published Oct 3, 2006, by Family News in Focus:
Alberta Wilson of Faith First Educational Assistance Corporation had a parent show her an elementary-level phonics-card that’s being used in the district.
“They’re teaching three syllable words – the word fam-i-ly. And on those phonics cards they have a mom and a dad, an elderly grandparent and grandfather raising children, and then they have two men and two women. They are teaching our young children that this is acceptable and that they should tolerate it. It is an outrage, it’s against God, and God is not pleased.”
…Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth is warning that the organizations that are pushing this agenda have a “give and inch, take a mile” mentality.
“The homosexual agenda always advances incrementally and so they start out by putting it on the calendar and then there’ll be pressure to say, ‘hey, we have to teach gay history just like we teach African-American history.’”…

Excerpted from Who Protected the Pervert Congressman?, by Cliff Kincaid, published Oct 1, 2006, by Accuracy in Media:
It’s one of the worst congressional scandals ever. A top House Republican who denounced sex predators as “animals” stands accused of acting like one. Mark Foley had served as a Deputy Majority Whip in the House and co-chair of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. His forced resignation, after being exposed as a homosexual pervert who talked dirty to young boys, has done more damage to the GOP than George Soros could ever think of doing. But it remains to be seen whether the liberal media and the Democrats can successfully exploit this scandal.
Brian Ross of ABC News broke the story and publicized the “sexually explicit” messages Foley sent to former congressional pages. Curiously, Ross never once used the word “homosexual” in referring to Foley’s conduct. But if Foley acted out his Internet fantasies in real life, he will be exposed as not only a homosexual pedophile but a predator. The messages indicate Foley is extremely sick and demented.
The failure to use the word “homosexual” in describing Foley’s dirty talk is likely due to fear over being labeled “homophobic” or biased by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), which exists to make sure that only positive portrayals of homosexuality are permitted in the media. Plus, the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association previously warned the media, in connection with sexual abuse by Catholic Priests, to avoid linking homosexuality to pedophilia.
The questionable line we already see emerging in the media is that Foley is guilty of inappropriate behavior toward young people but that it has nothing to do with his “sexual orientation.”
In fact, the entire scandal might have been avoided if Foley’s homosexuality had been exposed and confronted, rather than protected, over the last several years. Top Republicans and the media were part of this cover-up.
Peter LaBarbera, who began his writing career at Accuracy in Media, raised questions about Foley’s secret life back in 2003, after alternative newspapers and columnists began running stories about Foley’s homosexuality, even reporting that he had a “boyfriend.” LaBarbera gave credit to Bob Norman of the Broward-Palm Beach New Times newspaper for exposing Foley. However, LaBarbera found that most non-homosexual newspapers did not pursue the matter and that homosexual Republican groups were protecting him. For example, LaBarbera quoted Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, a homosexual activist group, as saying, “I could care less about [Foley’s] sexual orientation.” Guerriero insisted that the congressman had no obligation to discuss it.
At the time, as Foley was said to be considering running for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate, LaBarbera noted that “Many homosexual activists assert matter-of-factly that Rep. Foley is ‘gay’ and resent that he is not running for Senate as an open homosexual. Many social conservatives, on the other hand, argue that Florida’s voters have a right to know what lies behind his pro-homosexual voting record in Congress.”

This article about Mark Foley was written by Peter LaBarbera and published by CWA on May 28, 2003.
Rep. Mark Foley Won’t Discuss His ‘Orientation,’ but Others Will
By Peter LaBarbera
Florida columnist ‘outs’ Senate candidate
Mark Foley, a Republican congressman from Florida and a Senate candidate in 2004, is in a swirl of controversy after not answering repeated questions about his alleged homosexuality.
“Gay rights” advocates—including Bob Norman, a columnist with the New Times Broward-Palm Beach newspaper—say Foley’s alleged homosexuality is an open secret, one that he should acknowledge to Florida citizens.
Rep. Foley receives campaign donations from the Human Rights Campaign, a homosexual lobby group, and supports various pro-homosexual bills in Congress such as the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). His voting record is more conservative on other issues.
“[Foley’s] voting record on gay rights has become a controversial issue. He’s campaigning across Florida for the U.S. Senate. The people have a right to know,” Norman wrote in a long column May 8. “And dancing around the truth is just getting too weird to abide.”
In the column, Norman quotes Tracy Thorne, a homosexual and activist for homosexuals in the military, saying that Foley brought a “boyfriend” along on a visit to Thorne in the early 1990s.
Foley and his spokesman say they will not answer reporters’ questions about his “personal life.” The homosexual newspaper Washington Blade was told the same when it asked spokesman Kirk Fordham “point blank if Foley is gay.”
Most nonhomosexual newspapers did not pursue the story, but after Norman broke the ice with his column, the pressure grew on Foley, who is running for the seat vacated by Democratic presidential hopeful Bob Graham. (Foley has raised far more money for the Senate run than fellow GOP congressman Bill McCullum, who is also in the race.) Foley sought to go on the offensive by holding a conference call with reporters May 22. However, the call, in which Foley restated his refusal to discuss his “orientation,” only generated more press coverage.

Published Sept 29, 2006:
…Pro-family groups are concerned that family-friendly corporations have recently contributed large sums of money to the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. According to reports, entities such as Fox News, Wal-Mart, and Sam’s Club were among the corporate sponsors of the NLGJA’s national convention — and that fact bothers many pro-family organizations. Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth says the homosexual journalists’ group is one of the most biased groups one can find. LaBarbera notes comments made by Eric Hegedus, national NLGJA president and an employee of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He said that interviewing conservatives on stories about homosexuality is like going to white supremacists on stories about race,” says the Americans for Truth spokesman. “So, basically, he’s comparing pro-family conservatives to the KKK.” LaBarbera says the family-friendly corporations are bowing to pressure from homosexual activists — and that is not a good sign, he adds.

Excerpted from Christian Psychologist Loses Job with Minneapolis Police over Pro-Family Group Membership, by John-Henry Westen, published Sept 29, 2006, by LifeSite News:
Christian psychologist Michael Campion, who was suspended (and then cleared) by the Minneapolis Police Department after city officials learned that he was once a board member of a pro-family group, has lost his job with the Department.
Campion was told Tuesday that his contract work screening police officers would no longer be required. His case has attracted nationwide attention from Christians and civil liberties advocates who see his suspension as evidence of blatant anti-Christian discrimination.
After being reinstated following his widely reported suspension, Campion said he was scheduled to do a “big batch of testing” of Minneapolis police officers. Then, according to Campion, the Department did a 180-degree turn and called to tell him that he would not be doing the testing after all.
LifeSiteNews.com spoke with Matt Laibly a spokesman for the city of Minneapolis who admitted that Campion was initially suspended after city councilor Scott Benson asked for an inquiry into Campion’s membership in Illinois Familyi Institute (IFI). That suspension was lifted, says the city. However Campion has now lost his job.
The city is attempting to make it look like the loss of Campion’s job is not related to the incident. Laibly told LifeSiteNews.com, that Campion is no longer suspended but the city “is using a different vendor for screenings.” He added that the city is “working on a formal process for establishing a vendor and now putting together a request for proposals.”
When LifeSiteNews.com asked for clarification on whether or not Campion lost his job based on the accusation of membership in the pro-family group, Laibly said he could not comment. He did say however that the “city has always prided itself on being fair and tolerant.”
…IFI Policy & Media Advisor Peter LaBarbera said the Campion situation shows that there “there is a zero sum game between homosexual activism and freedom for people of faith who oppose homosexual behavior. The liberal ‘diversity’ lobby is going after Mike because of his deeply-held religious and moral beliefs. In fact, no homosexual police officers have come forward with charges of bias.
“They want Mike out because he is a committed Christian who does not share their ideology,” LaBarbera said. “How ironic that the forces of ‘tolerance’ are now leading a new assault on civil rights, this time against people of faith.”
Last year, Campion was fired as a psychological screener for policemen and firefighters for the City of Springfield, Illinois, following a liberal newspaper’s report of his ties to an “anti-choice and anti-gay” organization–Illinois Family Institute. Campion is now working with attorneys at the American Family Association to challenge his firing by the City of Springfield as discriminatory.
TAKE ACTION – Urge Police Chief Tim Dolan NOT to discriminate against Dr. Campion based on his religious and moral convictions.

Excerpted from Philadelphia School District Slates ‘Gay & Lesbian History Month’ for Oct., by Michael Foust, published Sept 28, 2006, by Baptist Press:
…”This shows the whole problem with gay activism and so-called gay rights,” Peter LaBarbera, president of the conservative group Americans for Truth, told Baptist Press. “If you promote so-called homosexual rights, by definition you have to undermine people’s religious rights and religious beliefs.
“If you have a gay history month, you’re basically saying, ‘This is a wonderful part of American history — homosexual history — let’s celebrate it and let’s teach the kids that this is like civil rights. Are they going to teach the role that homosexual behavior had in the onset of HIV and AIDS? Is that going to be part of the history?”
…LaBarbera, though, said there is no comparison between homosexuality and race.
“The schools are equating homosexuality with racial tolerance,” LaBarbera said. “Obviously, racial tolerance is accepted by 99.99 percent of Americans. But there’s a huge cultural divide on the issue of homosexuality, and the school district here is mimicking gay activists’ platitudes in response to this. There’s no respect for people who oppose homosexual behavior.
“They’re promoting one side of the issue to vulnerable and impressionable children. This is all about celebrating homosexuality, and there’s no consideration given for people from traditional faith households.”
