Mike Heath Confronts ‘Sodomy-based Marriage’ in Maine

Woman Strongly Disagrees During Heath Sermon and Walks Out

Mike Heath is my good friend and the former Board Chairman of Americans For Truth. He’s also the former Executive Director (1994–2009) of the Christian Civic League of Maine — which, I might add, has become decidedly less boldly “Christian” — and less principled — with the departure of Mike and his talented staff a few years back. (That’s a long and fascinating story, but it needs to be told because it says a lot about what ails the presumptively “Christian pro-family movement” [quotes necessary].)

Anyway, Mike Heath [see website HERE] is also a heckuva good guy who — now that he is free of the burdens of “pro-family movement” politics (quotes necessary) — is more apt to tell it like it is than he was before. That’s saying something, because Mike was usually more honest about what’s at stake in the “Culture War” over homosexuality than most pro-family and conservative leaders, who are — I’ll just say it — pretty much intimidated, out-gunned and out-organized by the Homosexual Lobby and at a loss for how to stop it. (See this New England homosexual lobby group’s website to get an idea of what we are up against.)

I don’t necessarily share Mike’s views on the potential that come November Mainers will likely vote for “sodomy-based marriage,” as he calls it (Mike doesn’t fret about style like so many Chistians these days). But the fact that it is even a possibility speaks to the failed “pro-family” strategy of NOT focusing on Homosexuality in the battle over, yes, Homosexual so-called “Marriage.”

Elephant in the room? What elephant in the room?!

LISTEN: Part One – AFTAH Interview with John McCartney and Wayne Lela

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Two men share truth about homosexuality with Chicago college students

HOW TO LISTEN: This is an  mp3 file.  Left click once on this link to play (more instructions at bottom) : 7-17-10, John McCartney & Wayne Lela, All

In this interview (Part One of two), which aired Saturday, July 17, 2010, AFTAH President Peter LaBarbera talks in studio with John McCartney and Wayne Lela — two Chicago men who have a unique “ministry” of going to local Chicago colleges and universities and educating students about homosexuality and “gay” activism. They do this from a pro-natural-family perspective that most young people rarely hear. For that they have been harassed by liberal professors — among other trials — but they persevered and have now gained entry on to all the Chicago-area public colleges, which cannot legally engage in viewpoint discrimination.

In the interview, McCartney discusses the way “brainwashing” works on this issue — censoring negative information about homosexuality while demonizing opponents of the “gay” agenda. Lela (who as an agnostic is not a member of the so-called “Religious Right”) formed a group called HOME, Heterosexuals Organized for a Moral Environment. McCartney is a retired English teacher and committed Catholic living in Chicago who has long served both the pro-life and pro-family causes. Both men will be attending AFTAH’s upcoming Truth Academy Aug 5-7, to be held at the Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, IL.

In this (Part One) interview, the two discuss the reactions of students to their work — and how Chicagoland newspapers seem to be cutting back on printing letters-to-the-editor that are critical of homosexuality — which would be consistent with the increasingly censorious posture of Chicago’s major media, which generally are very pro-“gay.” Lela and McCartney deserve our commendation. There are millions upon millions of people who affirm the truth that homosexual behavior is wrong, destructive, unnatural and changeable. But there are precious few like these two men who actually contend for this truth in the public square — and especially with students who, as they say, are “brainwashed” by the non-stop pro-homosexual propaganda in the media and popular culture.

HOW TO LISTEN: This is an  mp3 file.  Left click once on the link below to play.  (Please be patient, depending upon the speed of your internet connection it may take a moment or two to load.) OR right click the link then “save target as” to download the whole show.

Americans For Truth Joins as Partner of World Congress of Families

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Americans For Truth About Homosexuality is proud to join the World Congress of Families as a “Partner” organization. World Congress is the undisputed leader of the international pro-family movement. It is a distinct honor to be part of their growing network, which actively assists and unites pro-family and pro-life advocates the world over who are struggling against social leftism. WCF’s stated purpose is “to affirm that the natural human family is established by the Creator and essential to good society.” To accomplish its mission, WCF holds biennial international pro-family Congresses as well as more frequent regional conferences in major cities worldwide. To contact WCF, go HERE; to donate to The Howard Center/WCF, go HERE.

World Congress was launched by The Howard Center, based in Rockford, Illinois, a leading conservative, pro-family research institute under the guidance of the esteemed Dr. Allan Carlson. (If you are not reading The Howard Center’s publication, “The Family in America,” you are missing out.) AFTAH greatly appreciates and benefits from the tremendous work that Dr. Carlson, The Howard Center’s able staff, and the World Congress of Families do, and we look forward to working with them for years and decades to come. — Peter LaBarbera, www.aftah.org

LISTEN: Heath Discusses PC Developments in Pro-Marriage Movement on ‘Americans For Truth Hour’ Radio

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Mike Heath (left) -- pictured above with AFA founder Don Wildmon and Heath's wife, Paulie -- discusses political correctness within the pro-traditional-marriage movement on the "Americans For Truth Hour" radio program (April 24th). Heath is the new director of American Family Association of Maine, and AFA of New England.

To listen online to any AFTAH Hour Radio program: go HERE to access MP3s of the “Americans For Truth Hour” radio program, heard every Saturday night at 11:00 PM Central on Chicagoland station WYLL, AM-1160, www.wyll.com. On the “AFTAH Hour” page are interviews with Dawn Stefanowicz, Pete Lines, Brian Camenker, Michael Glatze and Mike Heath. Listen on May 1st for Part Two of our interview with Robert Knight, Coral Ridge Ministries.

Latest Program Highlights: Mike Heath, new executive director of American Family Association of New England (and AFA of Maine), discusses the new evangelical politics of the fight against “gay marriage.” Heath himself — despite his veteran status as the leading pro-family advocate opposing the homosexualist agenda in Maine — was “thrown under the bus” in the most recent pro-marriage campaign in Maine, because he was deemed too much of an “anti-gay” lightning rod.

NOTE: this interview is a substitute for Part Two of our interview with Bob Knight, author of “Radical Rulers: The White House Elites Who Are Pushing America Towards Socialism” (listen to Part One online HERE). Due to a scheduling conflict, so the second part of Knight’s interview with AFTAH will air this Saturday, May 1 at 11:00 PM on www.wyll.com.

Barber Clarifies Confusion over ‘Faux Controversy’ about his Bold Description of Homosexual Sodomy

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

cpac-logo-2009Update: since the publication of this piece in 2009, Randy Thomas has strayed back into homosexuality (while still claiming, against the entire counsel of Scripture, that he remains a faithful Christian. His former boss, Alan Chambers, has presided over the implosion of Exodus International as a Christian “ex-gay” ministry–through the embrace of of a heresy labeled “Hyper-Grace” by our friend Dr. Michael Brown, who wrote a book about it. In 2015, Chambers ridiculously opined that God is “cool” with homosexual “marriage.” AFTAH now (highly) recommends Restored Hope Network, an umbrella group of ex-“gay” ministries that includes many former Exodus members. — Peter LaBarbera, AFTAH, Dec. 2, 2016

Folks, a few days ago we ran a story about CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) allowing a homosexual activist group to be a co-sponsor, in which I quoted my friend (and AFTAH Board Member) Matt Barber offered a colorful description of homosexual sodomy. It was appropriately dismissive toward this “detestable” act (Leviticus 18:22) once known as a “crime against nature,” Matt’s point was obvious: no true “conservative” can support or celebrate homosexual perversion or the LGBT agenda, in any way.

Well, thanks to the politically correct overreaction of Randy Thomas and Alan Chambers of Exodus International (an ex-“gay” umbrella group), Liberty Counsel (Barber’s current employer) issued an apologetic statement that was not fully accurate in that it left out a key fact: Matt’s ownership of the bold sodomy description. This could create the  impression that Barber might not have made the comment, which he did.

Today Matt issued his own clarification (emphasis added):

“This is for clarification only. As affirmed in Liberty Counsel’s statement, neither I nor anyone with Liberty Counsel ever publicly ‘wrote or made’ the comment in question – an unapologetically direct and accurate depiction of the sin of sodomy (a sin that God directly and accurately calls both an ‘abomination’ and ‘detestable’). Some years before I began working with Liberty Counsel, I made the comment in private conversation with Peter LaBarbera. At the time, Peter asked if he could ‘quote me on it’ and I said yes.

Harvey: When PR Flacks Take over Moral Messaging

When PR flacks take over moral messaging

Pro-family forces prevailed on Nov. 3 in the state of Maine to preserve traditional marriage –– for now –– and praise God for that. Yet the Stand for Marriage Maine campaign ceded some precious ground in the process and threw long-time family activists under the bus instead of working with them as they could have.

Christian policy professionals all across the country were aghast after watching the last-minute TV ad by SMM, which said this:

Abandoning traditional marriage entails real consequences, yet we want to be tolerant of gays. Maine’s Domestic Partnership laws provide substantial legal protection for gay couples. Any problems remaining can be addressed without dismantling traditional marriage. It’s possible to support the civil rights of all citizens and protect traditional marriage at the same time.

This is a huge concession to the hopes and aspirations of “gay” activists. Are there indeed “rights” that need to be accorded to the behavior of homosexuality? No self-respecting Christian would take this position. This paves the way for the pseudo-marriage of “domestic partnerships.” The big question is: Why did “conservatives” do this?

What Price Victory in Maine? Barber Assails ‘Neville Chamberlain’ Approach of YES on 1 Campaign

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Domestic_Partnership_Maine-adChristians PROMOTING homosexual relationships and “gay civil rights”? Above is a frame from the Stand for Marriage Maine TV ad “It’s Possible,” effectively endorsing the state’s “domestic partnership” law and “civil rights” based on homosexuality. See controversial text of ad below, and view the full ad HERE.

I agree with my good friend Matt Barber, who is also a Board Member of Americans For Truth in addition to his important work at Liberty Counsel. It is not ethical nor good strategy for the “pro-family” movement to promote one evil and public-policy disaster (changeable and sinful behavior as a government-backed “civil right”) to fight another (homosexual “marriage”). Yet that is precisely what the Yes on 1 campaign’s pro-domestic partnership ad called “It’s Possible” did. [Click HERE for AFTAH’s election story.] Here again is the text of that misguided Yes on 1 ad used in Maine:

‘Abandoning traditional marriage entails real consequences, yet we want to be tolerant of gays. Maine’s Domestic Partnership laws provide substantial legal protection for gay couples. Any problems remaining can be addressed without dismantling traditional marriage. It’s possible to support the civil rights of all citizens and protect traditional marriage at the same time.’

We who claim to follow God are lacking in integrity if we promote the normalization of homosexuality as part of some (perhaps well-intentioned) utilitarian plan to ostensibly “save” traditional marriage. Indeed, the irony of the ad text above is that progressive concessions on “domestic partnership” and “civil unions” legislation will, in fact, dismantle traditional marriage. Yes on 1 PR consultant Frank Schubert’s compromising spin will pave the way for disaster in the pro-family movement, as it undermines our greatest strength: our commitment to the truth. It’s time to reject Political Correctness and get back to basics in the pro-family movement. — Peter LaBarbera, www.americansfortruth.org
