NAPERVILLE, Illinois –– Americans For Truth (AFTAH) President Peter LaBarbera today called on schools, the media and opinion-makers to “break the silence” regarding the serious health risks of homosexual behavior, and said Americans deserve an official government investigation into the matter.

“Today, thousands of schools across the country are encouraging the homosexual activist ‘Day of Silence,’ and doing it in the name of protecting students’ safety,” LaBarbera said. “While schools can and must protect every child from harassment and abuse, it is contradictory to promote homosexuality in the name of ‘safety’ because the evidence is so overwhelming that same-sex behavior is a serious health risk –– especially for males.”

AFTAH has joined a coalition of pro-family organizations encouraging parents to pull their children out of schools that endorse the “Day of Silence” or allow students not to participate in classroom activities. [For a list of DOS-participating schools, see www.missionamerica.com.]

“How many government-funded studies have there been on the dangers of smoking?” LaBarbera said. “Yet homosexual men similarly are dying prematurely due to risky, unnatural same-sex practices –– but taxpayer-funded public schools are promoting this lifestyle to students through propagandistic exercises like the ‘Day of Silence.’”

Appeals Court Says IL School Cannot Ban ‘Be Happy, Not Gay’ T-shirts

April 24th, 2008

An important victory for free speech here. Who knew that the social leftists’ “Question Authority” mantra of yesteryear would be turned against them today as adults? Congratulations to ADF and Alex Nuxoll for not backing down to the PC Thought Police. — Peter LaBarbera

7th Circuit rules unanimously in favor of student represented by ADF attorneys in vital student free speech case.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit reversed a lower court’s ruling against an Illinois student Wednesday, saying the district court must order a Naperville high school to suspend its ban on a T-shirt that reads “Be Happy, Not Gay” while the student’s lawsuit proceeds. School officials prohibited student Alex Nuxoll, who is represented by Alliance Defense Fund attorneys, from wearing the clothing.

linda-harvey-001.jpg

We commend Linda Harvey, founder of Mission America, for the tremendous work she has done in alerting the nation to the homosexual-activist “Day of Silence (DOS),” which will be disrupting and politicizing classrooms in schools across the nation this Friday, April 25. A non-comprehensive list of schools that likely are participating in DOS is available HERE on Mission America’s website. Schools that have notified Linda that they are NOT participating are listed HERE. — Peter LaBarbera

Open Letter from Linda Harvey to Dr. Gene Harris, Superintendent of the Columbus (OH) Public Schools:

Dear Dr. Harris:

I was in the audience last Friday night at the Vineyard Church in Columbus for the “Justice Revival” featuring Jim Wallis of Sojourners. I heard you talk about your Christian faith and your desire that each child in the Columbus public schools know God’s will for his/her life. I am praying for your Project Mentor and hope that you are able to recruit responsible adults to mentor these valuable children. It’s a very worthy program.

Ken Hutcherson Plans ‘Day of Silence’ Protest at Mt. Si High School

Protest Planned for “Day of Silence” at Mt. Si High School

REDMOND, Washington — Dr. Ken Hutcherson, Senior Pastor of Antioch Bible Church has announced he is organizing a protest outside of Mt. Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 10:00 am, in objection to the “Day of Silence.”

By recently admitting that “HIV is a gay disease,” Matt Foreman, outgoing Executive
Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, acknowledged what the medical community has known for decades: the homosexual lifestyle is extremely high-risk and often leads to disease and even death.

According to Matt Barber of Concerned Women for America, “’The Day of Silence’ is all about advancing full acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle among children.”

“Can you imagine officials at a middle school, junior high or high school setting aside a day to promote ‘tolerance’ for heavy smoking and drinking among children?” he asks. “How about a day where teachers encourage kids to ‘embrace who they are,’ pick up that crack pipe and give it a stiff toke? The public would go ballistic, and for good reason.”

FDA Policy Banning Blood Donations from ‘Gay’ Men

April 23rd, 2008

fda_logo.gifTAKE ACTION: Join the walk-out protest against the pro-homosexuality-in-schools “Day of Silence” this Friday, April 25th, or in support of Alliance Defense Fund’s “Day of Truth” on Monday, April 28th.

Folks, we need an official government investigation of the health risks of homosexual practices — especially among men. Until we get one, this Food & Drug Administration (FDA) statement will have to do.

I challenge all those who make the dubious case that there is no disproportionately high health risk for males practicing homosexual behavior (compared to heterosexuality) to read this FDA policy explanation on banning blood donations from homosexual men and then continue to make that argument. Those taking up my challenge can write AFTAH at americansfortruth@comcast.net. I extend my challenge especially to vocal pro-homosexual activists.

Transgender ‘Peeing in Peace’ Paper Equates Male-Female Restrooms with Jim Crow Laws

April 22nd, 2008

jim_crow_segregated_restrooms.jpg

‘Transgender’ revolutionaries have joined their homosexual activist allies in ripping off the real civil rights movement. At left is a photo depicting Jim Crow racism. Racially segregated restrooms should never be compared to keeping gender-confused men wearing dresses out of public female bathrooms.

The following is excerpted from a report titled, “Peeing in Peace: A Resource Guide for Transgender Activists and Allies,” produced by the Transgender Law Center, based in San Francisco (where else?). What an insult to the genuine civil rights movement that ended the institutionalized racism of Jim Crow (emphasis added):

C. Historical Bathroom Activism
Bathrooms have long been a place where people with authority, power, or wealth have denied access to other people. Over 150 years ago, only wealthy people could afford bathrooms in their homes and poor people were forced to use insufficient, non-hygienic public toilets. For far too long, public bathrooms here in the United States were segregated between “white” and “colored” facilities. “Colored” bathrooms, along with colored sections of restaurants and buses to name only two more instances, were less sanitary and convenient than “white” bathrooms. One of the hard fought victories of the Civil Rights Movement was the elimination of these “colored” bathrooms because it was determined that “separate” was never equal. Women working in the construction trades struggled in the 1970’s to create women’s bathrooms on job sites where before there had been only men’s rooms. After decades of struggle, people with disabilities succeeded in passing the Americans with Disabilities Act in the 1980s, part of which included guidelines for the creation of accessible public bathrooms.

Despite all of the great work mentioned above, bathrooms continue to be unsafe for some people. Because of this, the work described in this guide is a continuation of the work of each of these past movements. One important thing that can be learned from past bathroom activism is that, unless we work on this issue with a variety of needs in mind the bathroom revolution will never work for everybody. Moody Radio Commentary: Two Sides of the Same Coin

April 21st, 2008

Thanks to Julie Roys of Moody Radio and WMBI in Chicago for her gracious words in this audio commentary today about the dual missions of Christians on the homosexual issue: ministry and truth-telling. The original conversation on Moody Radio to which Roys refers occurred April 15 on WMBI’s popular morning show. Morning host Mark Elfstrand interviewed Andrew Marin of the Marin Foundation and Moody Bible Institute Professor of Urban Studies John Fuder about their shared ministry of “immersion” evangelism in Chicago’s “Boystown” homosexual neighborhood; LaBarbera called into the program.

Two Sides of the Same Coin
By Julie Roys

Andy Marin and Peter LaBarbera.  They’re two very different men pursuing two very different missions.  But both serve the same God.

Andy Marin serves as president of the Marin Foundation; Peter LaBarbera, as president of Americans for Truth.  The Marin Foundation builds bridges with the gay and lesbian community.  Americans for Truth erects fences to contain the influence of that community. Some may see them as opponents.  But in reality, Marin and LaBarbera simply represent two sides of the same coin.  Marin emphasizes God’s love; LaBarbera stresses God’s truth. But both do God’s work.

Words to Live By

April 19th, 2008

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

“How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
