Dobson calls late pastor “a giant in the battle to restore traditional values in our nation”
We certainly echo the statement of Dr. Dobson below. Dr. Kennedy’s worldly detractors — focused as they are on politics — most likely are unfamiliar with his true passion of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through his entrepreneurial genius — and programs like Evangelism Explosion — he made it easier for millions of believers to share the truth of God’s gracious way to heaven, where Dr. Kennedy surely is today. — Peter LaBarbera

Dr. Dobson Remembers D. James Kennedy
Calls late pastor “a giant in the battle to restore traditional values in our nation”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 5, 2007
Colorado Springs, Colo. — Focus on the Family founder and Chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today upon learning of the death of Dr. D. James Kennedy:
“The Church has lost one of its truly significant figures, and American families have lost one of their most passionate, effective defenders. For decades, Dr. Kennedy has been a passionate defender of biblical truth in a culture that increasingly forgot it. He was a giant in the battle to restore traditional values in our nation.
“Most importantly, I believe, Dr. Kennedy would want to be remembered as a man whose greatest desire was to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Believers around the world are indebted to him for holding firm to that important calling.”

Few pro-family activists work harder than James Hartline, a former homosexual turned Christian advocate who lives and works in the heart of San Diego’s homosexual neighborhood. Kudos to James for leading this charge against homosexual special interest politicking. And enough already with homosexual politicians wasting taxpayers’ valuable money and time promoting an agenda that is motivated, at least in part, by a desire to build public acceptance for their own immoral (and changeable) behavior.
Here is Hartline’s release: — Peter LaBarbera

BREAKING NEWS! HISTORIC VICTORY FOR SAN DIEGO CHRISTIANS
September 4, 2007, 4:30pm.pst
REQUEST FOR SAN DIEGO CITY COUNCIL TO ENDORSE GAY MARRIAGE LEGAL CASE IS STOPPED AFTER SAN DIEGO CHRISTIANS MAKE BIG STAND DURING ALL DAY CITY COUNCIL BATTLE.
www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20070904-1521-nogay.html
Approximately 40 Christians appeared at the San Diego City Council on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 to oppose an attempt by lesbian San Diego City Councilwoman Toni Atkins to get the city council to issue a legal brief in support of gay marriage. The issuance of a legal brief in support of a “gay marriage” case currently being heard by the California Supreme Court would have been catastrophic for Christian values in California’s second largest city.
James Hartline, a well-known San Diego Christian activist and a candidate, himself, for the city council seat being vacated by termed-out Councilwoman Atkins, led the campaign to oppose the “gay marriage” legal brief.
Supporters for the “gay marriage” legal brief even had the city attorney for the City of San Francisco come down to San Diego to plead with the council to approve of the issuance of the legal brief.
Hartline gave a powerful and informative presentation on behalf of the thousands of Christians in San Diego who are opposed to redefining marriage to include couples engaged in homosexuality and lesbianism.
After a contentious and sometimes, hostile hearing, the request to approve the gay marriage legal brief failed on a 4-4 vote. A 5-3 vote was required for the item to be approved. When the smoke had cleared, some Christians in attendance declared that a real miracle had happened in the city council chambers.
Those who voted with the Christians in opposing the “gay marriage” legal brief were:
Councilman Kevin Faulconer, Republican, District 2
Councilman Brian Maienschein, Republican, District 5
Councilman Anthony Young, Democrat, District 4
Councilwoman Donna Frye, Democrat, District 6
Those who voted for the homosexual “marriage” legal brief were:
Councilman Scott Peters, Democrat, District 1
Councilwoman Toni Atkins, Democrat, District 3
Councilman Jim Madaffer, Republican, District 7
Councilman Ben Hueso, Democrat, District 8
There will be a more in depth look at the events surrounding this historic victory for San Diego Christians in an upcoming James Hartline Report exclusive.

Approximately 500 journalists, editors, producers, travel writers, bloggers and other communications workers from homosexual and mainstream media outlets gathered August 30 – September 2 for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) annual conference.
As at past NLGJA conferences, conservative-leaning Fox News Network was among the sponsors and recruiters.
Titled “Breaking Stories, Breaking Waves,” the convention, held in downtown San Diego’s Westin Horton Plaza hotel, featured a one-day LGBT media summit, six receptions, and more than 50 sessions and workshops ranging from “Covering LGBT Conservatives” (oddly, the Christian-conservative-bashing Wayne Besen was a panelist), to “Will Gays Matter in ’08?” to “Sex Writing for Fun and Profit.”
Attendees included print and broadcast professionals from top U.S. mainstream news agencies such as CNN, Associated Press, ABC/Primetime, NBC, CBS, Fox News Network, Hearst Newspapers, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Bloomberg News, Newsday, the Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, CNBC, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Time Warner/Turner Broadcasting, Washington Post, Hartford Courant, People Magazine, NPR, Clear Channel Communications, Wired Magazine, Cox Enterprises, and USA Today.
Among major homosexual media outlets represented were the Washington Blade, Dallas Voice, San Diego’s Gay and Lesbian Times, GO Magazine, Gay News Watch, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Bay Area Reporter, IN Los Angeles Magazine, Sirius OutQ Radio, CBS News on LOGO, and here! Networks.
Other organizations who sent employees to the convention, according to an attendee directory distributed with the registration package, included Cirque de Soleil; MGM Mirage; USC Annenberg School of Communications; Human Rights Campaign (HRC); Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund; Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN); Arizona State University Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication; JetBlue Airways; Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard; several Canadian tourism agencies; Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN); Lambda Legal; Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation; Out and Equal Workplace Advocates; Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau; and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The convention included plenary sessions on the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and immigration issues affecting homosexuals, as well as a general session featuring a conversation with Larry Kramer, founder of the AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP), a radical, “in your face” demonstration group that made headlines in December, 1989, for disrupting a Catholic Mass and destroying a consecrated Communion host at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.
The Canadian Tourism Board was the presenting sponsor for the convention. Other sponsors included JetBlue Airways, CBS News, CNN, ESPN, General Motors, Toyota automobiles, Orbitz, Bloomberg, Coca-Cola, the Gill Foundation, Sony Pictures and Television, visitBritain, ABC News, Fox News Network, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and the Washington Post.
Among “Career & Community Expo” participants were the Associated Press, Dow Jones, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, MGM Mirage, Reuters, Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, the New York Times, Fox News Network, and NBC Universal.
Other events occurring during the convention included a student projects, a documentary film screening, a “not so silent” auction, 12-step meetings, and a “San Diego Night Out.”
Americans For Truth sent reporter Allyson Smith to the convention for three days, where she attended more than a dozen sessions and raised issues of concern to pro-family advocates — including the biased manner in which “mainstream media” covers homosexuality-related issues. A full report about the sessions that Smith attended will follow in coming days.

Homosexual couples begin applying for marriage licenses
Washington, DC – Polk County Judge Robert Hanson (not to be confused with convicted spy Robert Hanssen) has miraculously divined that the framers of the Iowa constitution really intended that Iowans of the same sex must be allowed to “marry” one another. The unelected Hanson struck down Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act on Thursday ruling that, “Couples, such as Plaintiffs, who are otherwise qualified to marry one another may not be denied licenses to marry or certificates of marriage or in any other way prevented from entering into a civil marriage pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 595 by reason of the fact that both persons compromising such a couple are of the same sex.”
Within two hours of the ruling homosexual couples began applying for marriage licenses.
Addressing the decision, Matt Barber, Policy Director for Cultural Issues with Concerned Women for America (CWA) said, “Through his actions, Judge Hanson has arrogantly ignored the will of the people by cavalierly disregarding a law constitutionally enacted by Iowa citizens through their elected representatives in 1998.
“Once again we have another renegade judge abusing the authority he’s been granted and arbitrarily legislating from the bench. Hanson is a judicial activist. He’s just one man – a county judge – who has haughtily trampled on the concept of separation of powers, the elected state legislature and the people of Iowa in order to push his own radical agenda.
“It’s preposterous to think that the framers of the Iowa constitution could have even imagined that the document they were drafting would someday be distorted in such a way as to force “‘gay’ marriage” upon Iowa.
“This case proves once again that the only way to assure that the institution of marriage is protected – and not radically redefined into oblivion – is to pass a federal marriage amendment,” concluded Barber.
The case is expected to be appealed to the Iowa Supreme Court.
Concerned Women for America is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization.

UPDATE: after Donna Garner sent the message below, she did some more research on Wal-Mart’s “Gay & Lesbian” books section of its website and found that the corporation had not changed as much as she thought. Here is her subsequent ‘Correction’:
TAKE ACTION: Contact Wal-Mart by phone at 1-800-WALMART or through their online feedback page; thank them for moving in a pro-family direction but ask them to stop marketing offensive books that promote homosexual behavior, especially to youth. There are plenty of places to get these books: a “pro-family” corporation need not aggressively pursue this market.
Donna Garner writes: Now I am really sorry that I gave Wal-Mart a “pass” on their online offerings. Last night when I was searching, I typed in the words “homosexuality” and “homosexuals” into the Wal-Mart search box. This is the same way that I had searched last summer and found so very many.
This morning someone who is far wiser than I am has written me back and said these horrible teen homosexual books are still online at Wal-Mart [examples: The Best Gay Love Stories 2005, It’s in Her Kiss (see cover above), Queer Cowboys, Best Lesbian Love Stories 2005, etc.] and can be located by going through the following or by typing in the word “gay” into the search engine. I should have thought to do that. Please forgive my ignorance.
We still need to hold Wal-Mart responsible, and I will send my letters to the Wal-Mart executives as soon as I have time to get them written.
Here is what the wiser person wrote to me this morning:
“In the Search box, choose Books from the drop down menu, but don’t type a search term in the menu. Then click Find. When it brings up a new screen, look on the lefthand side under SHOP BOOKS. You will see in the list Gay & Lesbian. Click on that. In the next screen, it says Featured Categories. Right under that is a section Gay & Lesbian Fiction, with a photo of a book Walk Like A Man. Just below that book, just below the Add To Cart button, it says See all fiction. Click on the word fiction. It will take you to the Gay and Lesbian Fiction listings.”

Donna Warner’s original message: Super-activists like Donna Garner and pro-family organizations like American Family Association — which led the charge against Wal-mart’s pro-homosexual drift — had a lot to do with this hopeful marketing shift. — Peter LaBarbera
TAKE ACTION: Contact Wal-Mart by phone at 1-800-WALMART or by through their online feedback page, and thank them for moving in a pro-family direction.

Not only has Wal-Mart actually stopped funding Planned Parenthood and has been taken off the Life Decisions International Boycott List, but I believe the Wal-Mart online bookstore has been cleaned up also.
I went to the Wal-Mart online bookstore and typed in “homosexuality.” Earlier this summer when I typed in that word, there were some 500+ books on the subject. Now there are only 99 [there are actually over 400–Ed.]. I scrolled through all 99, and most of them are either about homosexuality and Christianity or homosexuality in history, art, foreign countries, etc. I wish many of them were not being sold by Wal-Mart, but I have to say that the really horrible homosexual novels and perverted books which teens might be lured into reading are no longer on the list [see note above on that].
Praise God! I really do believe Wal-Mart has had a change of heart. The boycott did get their attention, and the Lord has answered our prayers.
Thanks to all of you who joined in the boycott of Wal-Mart. It took all of us working together to make a difference. God’s people are a mighty army!

The “gay” media group GLAAD — which smears Christians as “haters” and “homophobes” — has for years tried to pressure the New York Post into dropping cartoonist Sean Delonas. This cartoon plays off the recent New Jersey Miss America contestant who claimed someone was trying to force her out of the pageant through blackmail. Support Dalonas and free speech by writing the NY Post today.
TAKE ACTION:
- Read the censorious release from GLAAD attacking N.Y. Post cartoonist Sean Delonas for spoofing disgraced homosexual adulterer and former N.J. governor Jim McGreevey. Then write your own note to Delonis and his managing editor concerning the lampooning of immoral homosexual behavior. (See our note at bottom.)
- Write Sean Delonas, his managing editor, and/or the New York Post. Here’s the contact info courtesy of GLAAD:

Very bad behavior by public officials is rightfully the butt of jokes in a free society. Take former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey (D), a married father with children who resigned in 2004 after admitting to homosexual adultery.
Above, New York Post cartoonist Sean Delonas uses the time-honored tradition of exaggeration to lampoon McGreevey, whose disgrace was softened by a sympathetic media that hyped his “coming out” — McGreevey announced that he was “gay” as he resigned — as if somehow he was as much a victim as his suffering wife and children.
Homosexual activists are always on the offensive, and these days that often means attacking anything or anyone critical of “gay” behavior or homosexuals themselves. Apparently in the minds of humorless “gay” zealots, even jokes about disgraced politicians caught in homosexually-oriented sex scandals are off-limits.

The Story Stalls Here
By Robert Knight
Thursday, August 30, 2007
As Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was figuratively dragged out of the restroom and into the spotlight this week, the media have been ignoring another compelling story about sex in public toilets.
Fort Lauderdale’s Democratic mayor, Jim Naugle, has incurred the wrath of homosexual activists for publicly addressing the problem of men having sex in public places.
It all came to a head, so to speak, in July, when the mayor backed an idea that would frustrate the thrill seekers: switching to automated stalls. Automated stalls make it difficult for trolling swingers to hook up, and they protect small boys from walking in on lewd behavior.
The reaction was brutal. The local South Florida Sun-Sentinel ran a piece effectively accusing Naugle of gay-bashing. Predictably, the “gay community” came out of the woodwork, attacking the mayor as “homophobic,” “bigoted” and full of “hate.” Critics said Naugle was undermining Broward County’s carefully cultivated reputation as a “gay-friendly” vacation destination.
Responding to the media-fed flood of criticism, the mayor, like so many pols before him, announced that he would apologize at a press conference on July 24. The local press gathered, notebooks ready and cameras rolling, to enjoy the latest example of self-immolation on the pyre of political correctness.
Naugle delivered an apology all right, but not the expected groveling before the rainbow flag. Instead, he apologized to “the children and parents of our community” for not being informed about “how serious the problem was of sexual activity that’s taking place in bathrooms and public parks.” Then he made a shocking assertion: that Broward County leads the nation in new AIDS cases.
Say what? Did he just do what we think he did? How many Americans do you suppose would have found this interesting: a newsy city’s mayor under siege who, instead of kowtowing, comes out fighting and even raises the stakes?
National press coverage of the Naugle saga has been skimpy. CNN finally covered the story on August 6. In a news segment of 5 minutes, 10 seconds, CNN gave Naugle a total of 35 seconds to speak. Reporter Susan Candiotti noted Naugle’s explosive claim that Broward has “a record increase of new AIDS cases in the county, the highest in the nation,” but she didn’t explore the significance of the statistics.
Here’s what Candiotti ignored: According to the Broward County Health Department, AIDS Surveillance data, in 2006, 70.2 percent of new HIV cases involved men having sex with men (MSM) and another 2.8 percent involved MSM who inject drugs intravenously, for a total of 73 percent.
On August 13, CNN gave the story another 5 minutes, 12 seconds. Anchor Rick Sanchez affected a skeptical, aggressive tone, but to his credit, Sanchez gave Naugle time to make his case. Sanchez showed no interest in the public health concerns. ….

From Focus on the Family’s Citizenlink:
County Judge Robert Hanson decided Thursday that he will make the laws for Iowa. He struck down the state’s 1998 Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional and ordered Polk County to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Roger J. Kuhle, an assistant county attorney, argued the issue is not for a judge to decide. The county, home to state capital Des Moines, is expected to appeal the ruling to the Iowa Supreme Court.
Dr. James C. Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family Action, called it another example of a judge legislating from the bench.
“Once again, we see an activist judge handing liberal activists what they have not been able to achieve legislatively or at the ballot box: government sanctioning of same-sex marriage,” he said. “This purely political ruling proves yet again that nothing short of a federal marriage-protection amendment is sufficient to preserve one-man, one-woman marriage in our nation.
“By striking down Iowa’s DOMA, Judge Robert Hanson has shown he believes the desires of adults should trump what’s best for children. His ruling represents social engineering at its worst.”
