The Bob Spitzer I Knew – Nicolosi on Psychiatrist Whose Research Shows ‘Gays’ Can Change their Orientation

Thursday, January 14th, 2016

Homosexual activist pressure campaign drove Spitzer to disavow his own study on “ex-gay” therapy, but Archives of Sexual Behavior editor refused to retract it

Target of Homosexual Pressure Campaign: The late Dr. Robert Spitzer, above, reported in a landmark 2003 academic study that “there is evidence that change in sexual orientation following some form of reparative therapy does occur in some gay men and lesbians.” “Gay” activists barraged him with criticism, so much so that he later disavowed his own study–which, however, was NOT retracted. See the study HERE and the abstract of it below.

Folks, below is an excerpt of a critically important Crisis Magazine piece by Linda Ames Nicolosi, formerly the publications director of NARTH (and wife of Joe Nicolosi). Her subject, Robert Spitzer, played a tragic yet pivotal role in the normalization of homosexuality and the advancement of the homosexual political and cultural agenda. But, as Linda describes, for a time he also advanced the truth that people can indeed overcome unwanted homosexual attractions–by authoring a landmark 2003 study of 200 homosexual men and lesbians who self-reported a “change from homosexual to heterosexual orientation.” This seemingly most politically incorrect of all realities is anathema to homosexualist (“gay”) ideologues, who mercilessly hammered Spitzer–then an old man–ultimately manipulating him into disavowing his own research. Note that, despite his requests, the editor of Archives of Sexual Behavior, Kenneth Zuckerrefused to retract Spitzer’s study because the data had not been falsified.

Remember: reports of homosexual people who tried to change but couldn’t are counter-balanced by the many people who have successfully left homosexual lifestyles behind. Of course, in line with the LGBT propaganda tactic that I call “Focus on the Failures,” the latter get far less media attention than the former. You can read the full Crisis article HERE. — Peter LaBarbera, AFTAH

Below is the abstract of the 2003 Spitzer study;

Position statements of the major mental health organizations in the United States state that there is no scientific evidence that a homosexual sexual orientation can be changed by psychotherapy, often referred to as “reparative therapy.” This study tested the hypothesis that some individuals whose sexual orientation is predominantly homosexual can, with some form of reparative therapy, become predominantly heterosexual. The participants were 200 self-selected individuals (143 males, 57 females) who reported at least some minimal change from homosexual to heterosexual orientation that lasted at least 5 years. They were interviewed by telephone, using a structured interview that assessed same sex attraction, fantasy, yearning, and overt homosexual behavior. On all measures, the year prior to the therapy was compared to the year before the interview. The majority of participants gave reports of change from a predominantly or exclusively homosexual orientation before therapy to a predominantly or exclusively heterosexual orientation in the past year. Reports of complete change were uncommon. Female participants reported significantly more change than did male participants. Either some gay men and lesbians, following reparative therapy, actually change their predominantly homosexual orientation to a predominantly heterosexual orientation or some gay men and women construct elaborate self-deceptive narratives (or even lie) in which they claim to have changed their sexual orientation, or both. For many reasons, it is concluded that the participants’ self-reports were, by-and-large, credible and that few elaborated self-deceptive narratives or lied. Thus, there is evidence that change in sexual orientation following some form of reparative therapy does occur in some gay men and lesbians.

The Bob Spitzer I Knew

By Linda Ames Nicolosi, in Crisis Magazine, January 11, 2016

When I opened the newspaper a couple of days after Christmas, I was surprised by a familiar face in the obituaries section: psychiatrist Robert Spitzer. The name brought back a flood of bittersweet personal memories. I had learned something about human nature from Bob Spitzer, and also about politics as they play out behind the scenes in the mental-health establishment.

About 15 years before, Spitzer had asked me to help him with a new research project he was working on—a study of people who had come out of a gay lifestyle. He needed help on his wording and the expression of concepts, and I was, at the time, publications director for NARTH (National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality).

Janet Mefferd on Matthew Vines and the Homosexual-Christian ‘Dialogue’

Thursday, June 18th, 2015
Matthew Vines is working hard to win Christians to the idea that homosexual relationships can be blessed before a holy God. For espousing that heresy, he cannot and must not be seen as a "brother in Christ."

Sin Advocate: Young and winsome Matthew Vines is working hard to win Christians to the idea that committed homosexual relationships should be blessed before a holy God. Despite his apostasy, Vines was recently welcomed as a “brother in Christ” by Rev. Caleb Kaltenbach, lead pastor of Discovery Church in Simi Valley, CA. See Vines’ curiously named “Reformation Project.

“We are to have no fellowship with darkness. We can’t ‘dialogue’ with any professing Christian who’s in open rebellion against the Word of God. We can’t ‘dialogue’ with anybody who is deceiving and misleading the Body of Christ on any sin while claiming to be a Christian!”–Janet Mefferd

______________________

I welcome my friend Janet Mefferd to the pages of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality. Janet is a former longtime radio talk show host with the Salem Radio Network–and, I must say, as someone who cumulatively chatted a few hours in on-air interviews with Mefferd over the years–she was one of the best in the business (Christian and secular). We look forward to seeing what’s next in Janet’s career, but until then we are delighted to publish her work.

Regarding this issue of “dialogue” or “bridging” with homosexuality advocates, I recall an article by the late Alan Medinger–a man who walked away from homosexuality with the help of the Savior he loved, Jesus Christ. Medinger, who founded Regeneration Ministries in Baltimore, wisely cautioned against an internal Church debate over homosexuality because there is nothing compelling it except outside, anti-biblical agitation. The sinfulness of same-sex behavior is a settled matter in both the Bible and thousands of years of Church/Old Testament tradition, argued Medinger, and we need not debate it now within Christendom any more than we should debate, say, adultery.

Read this beautiful tribute to Medinger by Regeneration’s Josh Glaser–then decide if the same Spirit of Christ that impelled Alan lies with Matthew Vines, who–by trying to redefine Christianity to accommodate homosexual relationships and “gay marriage”–propels the very same debate that Medinger rejected on principle. Below Mefferd ably applies what I call the “Sexual Sin Substitution Test.” — Peter LaBarbera, AFTAH; Twitter: @PeterLaBarbera

Enough with the “Dialogue,” Already

Evangelicals Open Door to Debate on Gay Rights.” Just the kind of headline I never enjoy, but it ran June 8 in The New York Times over a story about “influential evangelicals” meeting with homosexual activist Matthew Vines at Biola University last month, complete with a Times reporter and photographer on hand.

Vines, you may recall, is author of 2014’s controversial “God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships,” which manipulates biblical terminology in an unconvincing attempt to argue against the sinfulness of homosexuality.

Worse, the book was published by Crown Publishing Group’s Convergent imprint, which shared staff and operations with and was a sister imprint of evangelical Christian publisher WaterBrook Multnomah. Among other repercussions for printing such unbiblical garbage, WaterBrook Multnomah resigned its membership from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB). (Crown later separated the two imprints.)

Vines also runs an apostate group called The Reformation Project, which claims to exist “to train Christians to support and affirm lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. Through building a deep grassroots movement, we strive to create an environment in which Christian leaders will have the freedom to take the next steps toward affirming and including LGBT people in all aspects of church life.”

VIDEO: ‘Gay Journalists’ Group NLGJA Auctions Off Male Stripper at Fundraiser – Then Blocks Video Coverage of it

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015

Folks, this video by my friend Cliff Kincaid of America’s Survival is priceless: a supposedly professional “gay journalists” group, NLGJA, shuts down the videotaping of it auctioning off a male “Chippendales” stripper at the group’s annual New York City fundraiser. Clearly, NLGJA (National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association) leaders cared more about mitigating an embarrassing “PR crisis” than granting reportorial access to their event. Strange, but revealing: it seems a bit of appropriate shame dampened their “gay pride.” You can also watch it on YouTube— Peter LaBarbera, AFTAH.org

PS. AFTAH and America’s Survival have led the way in exposing the NLGJA–which is funded by major media corporations including Fox News–as a highly politicized, pro-homosexual activist organization, as demonstrated by Cliff’s observation about the group’s biased “definition” of “ex-gay” (which it puts in quotes; see graphic below or go HERE). See my in-depth AS report on Fox News and the NLGJA. Cliff’s story follows the video:

Male Stripper Performs at Gay Journalists Event

By Cliff Kincaid, reprinted from America’s Survival, April 20, 2015

Their slogan is, “We’re here, we’re queer. We’re on deadline.” But on April 16th, when the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) held their 2015 “Headlines & Headliners” fundraiser in New York City, they were cheering a strip-tease performer from Chippendales.

Chippendales strippers usually perform for sex-starved women. This time the audience consisted of sex-starved gay men.

It was an eye-opening experience that included stars from CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. The emcee was Javier “Javi” Morgado, Executive Producer at CNN’s “New Day” program, who introduced the live auction of two VIP seats at the Las Vegas Chippendales show. He’s a former board member of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association. Tyson Beckford, who has joined Chippendales in Las Vegas as their celebrity guest host, participated in the live auction, encouraging higher bids.

I paid the $150 ticket price to get into the event. This isn’t the first time I had covered and filmed the event, and I never encountered any problems in the past. But this time the group told me to leave. My own video shows the confrontation.

The NLGJA puts "ex-gay" in quote marks in its tendentious "Stylebook" definition.

Just “journalists”? The NLGJA puts “ex-gay” in quote marks in its tendentious “Stylebook” guiding reporters, editors and producers on how to handle “gay”-related news.

The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association is financed by all of the major media organizations, from MSNBC and CNN on the left to Fox News on the right. It has issued a “Stylebook” to advise news organizations on how to use “lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender terminology.” For example, you are not supposed to use the term “ex-gay,” even though thousands of former homosexuals do exist. The gay “Stylebook” warns that the term “ex-gay” is “mostly rooted in conservative religions” and has been “generally discredited as therapy in scientific circles.”

That this is complete nonsense can be demonstrated by the well-known case of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray. For years she publicly called herself a lesbian, even writing an essay titled, “I Am a Lesbian.” But she got married to de Blasio and has two kids. The gay “Stylebook” is why you rarely see interviews with ex-gays on the air. They are not supposed to exist.

Chicago ‘Gay’ Bathhouse Steamworks Again Lures Young Men Through ‘Spring Break Student Discount’

Friday, April 3rd, 2015

steamworks_spring_break-1WARNING: Offensive Descriptions of Homosexual Perversions

“Think twice about mixing alcohol and/or recreational drugs with sex. They can reduce your ability to make good decisions and can lead to risky behavior—like having sex without a condom.

“Limit your number of partners. You can lower your risk for STDs if you only have sex with one person who only has sex with you.”–“CDC Fact Sheet: What Gay, Bisexual and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men Need to Know About Sexually Transmitted Diseases,” last updated Nov. 13, 2014

If you haven’t noticed, most of the media debate surrounding homosexuality–insofar as the media even consider there to be a legitimate “debate”–centers around “marriage” and monogamy. Precious little attention is given to the actual set of behaviors that not only has made–especially male homosexuality–a dangerous lifestyle, but which also provides evidence that homosexualism is precisely what moralists say it is: wrong, perverse and destructive behavior.

Homosexual institutions, organizations and “gay” sex businesses actively recruit young people to join their ranks. Catering to male homosexual sex is big business. Below we have a particularly wicked institution, Steamworks–a Chicago homosexual bathhouse where men go for indiscriminate, anonymous sexual encounters with other men–trying to lure college boys to its debauched premises. This ad ran last week (March 21-29) on the Chicago Steamworks website:

Steamworks_Spring_Break_2015_Chicago

Wanted: Young Men: Web ad for the Chicago homosexual bathhouse “Steamworks”–part of a North American chain–advertises a “Student Discount” for Spring Break 2015.

AFTAH has called for the closure of homosexual bathhouses in the interest of protecting the public’s health–e.g., women who are infected with HIV by male spouses who secretly engage in homosexual acts on the “down low. ” And we have reported on this particular Chicago bathhouse before. It sits in a large, nondescript building on Halsted Street in the heart of the city’s homosexual “Boystown” neighborhood (officially demarcated with “gay” rainbow pillars lining the streets). In fact, about a decade ago, I joined some hardy souls in a late-night “protest/Christian witness” outside this bathhouse.

For years, Steamworks has participated in the annual Chicago homosexual “Pride” festivities. It is part of a North American chain of homosexual bathhouses–others are located in Berkeley, California, Seattle, Washington–and in Canada in Toronto, Ontario and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Uber-perversion

What goes on in a bathhouse? I can only know from reading accounts by people who have been there: men young and old pay to get in. They buy a locker for their clothes–$5 off the usual price with a student ID, according to the “Spring Break”ad–and then walk around in a towel, which of course makes it easier to engage in sodomies with complete strangers. Customers can pay extra for a private room.

There is a sauna, showers and hot tub–and surely sodomitic acts occur in all three. Homosexual pornography spews from TVs throughout the building to stoke the hyper-sexual, orgiastic atmosphere. I cannot imagine the hygienic violations at a place like Steamworks but it is telling that in online reviews of this and other “gay” sex clubs, men complain about sticky floors.

The depraved and vile goings-on in bathhouses predictably contribute to the astronomically high rates of STD rates among homosexual men, but the response of government health bureaucrats and researchers to the crisis seems to be to use the bathhouses and “gay” sex clubs as distribution points for condoms and “safer sex” information–rather than to close them down or at least regulate them more tightly. That’s sort of like passing out anti-gambling literature at a racetrack but it has been the politically correct “safer sex” mentality for decades.

Discuss web-based intimidation network that is wearing down conservatives

Janet_Mefferd_Show_thumbnail

Salem Radio host Janet Mefferd interviewed AFTAH’s Peter LaBarbera yesterday (Jan. 20, 2015) about Fox News’ decision to request that its nightly “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier pull out as a scheduled speaker at a Legatus conference after a homosexual activist complained that Legatus, a national Catholic businessmen’s group, is “very anti-gay.” Baier himself is a Catholic, and defended his withdrawal from the event. Fox News is a major donor to a homosexual journalists group. Click HERE for the MP3 audio link to the hour-long interview [or click on the image at right].

It may be easier to listen at Janet’s website audio player: [go HERE].

The two also discussed Hollywood’s current obsession with promoting homosexuality and gender confusion.

Bret Baier Confirms Fox News Asked Him to Pull Out of Catholic Legatus Event

Fox News-enforced Political Correctness: Anchor Bret Baier confirms that Fox News requested that he pull out of a Jan 28-29 conference for the Catholic group Legatus. Baier cited Pope Francis

Fox News-enforced Political Correctness: Anchor Bret Baier [e-mail: special@foxnews.com] confirms that Fox News requested that he pull out of a Jan 28-29 conference for the Catholic group Legatus. Baier chided a Legatus writer for not being “loving” enough, and for calling homosexuality a “disorder.” Yet the Catholic Catechism teaches that both homosexual behavior and inclinations are “disordered.” Meanwhile, FOX News funds a “gay journalists” group that promotes sexual behavior condemned by the Catholic Church and the Bible. [See Peter LaBarbera’s in-depth report on Fox’s pro-homosexual bias and funding of an activist-minded homosexual journalists association HERE.]

[E-mail: special@FOXNEWS.COM]

  • Anchor cites Pope Francis in agreeing with network decision to withdraw as speaker;
  • Baier says Legatus writer not “loving” enough; criticizes calling homosexuality a “disorder” even though that is Catholic teaching;
  • Gov. Mike Huckabee, Austin Ruse sign up as new Legatus speakers, defying “Gay Thought Police”
  • Do Bret Baier, Gary Sinise and Pete Coors owe Legatus and Catholics an apology?

By Peter LaBarbera

The following e-mail note was sent Friday by Fox News’ “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier [E-mail: special@FOXNEWS.COM] in response to an AFTAH newsletter subscriber who wrote him expressing concern over Baier’s decision to pull out as a scheduled speaker from a conference later this month by the Catholic group Legatus. [See previous AFTAH story on Legatus HERE.]

As you can read below, as justification for abandoning his commitment to Legatus, Baier criticizes a Legatus writer who wrote about “same-sex attraction disorder” for not being “loving” and “accepting” enough–e.g., for referring to homosexuality as a “disorder.” However, Baier, who describes himself as a “lifelong mass attending Catholic,” might want to study up on his own Church’s moral teachings. The Catholic Church Catechism describes the homosexual “inclination” as “objectively disordered,” and same-sex acts as “intrinsically disordered.”

The good news is that Legatus has had no trouble filling the politically correct speakers’ void, with former GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee–a former Fox News host himself–sending a powerful message by leading the pack of new speakers advertised for the January 28-29 summit. Joining Huckabee are Catholic pro-family activist Austin Ruse and ex-CEO and professor Harry Kraemer.

Also, as AFTAH reported, Louisana Gov. Bobby Jindal never buckled to “gay” activist pressure by remaining as a speaker [call Gov. Jindal at 225-342-7015], and New York Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan will say a Mass at the Legatus event.

Bottom Line: Fox News’ Values Upside-Down

Here is the bottom line of this controversy: Fox News directly finances and sponsors pro-“gay” media events that promote homosexual behavior and ideology–including same-sex “marriage”–condemned by the Catholic Church. They also recruit at these activist-oriented events: see their sponsorship of last year’s National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) conference in Chicago, attended by this writer, and my in-depth special report on Fox News pro-“gay” bias and ongoing funding of the NLGJA.

At the same time, Fox News apparently discourages its on-air talent from participating in wholesome, faith-based events that uphold traditional sexual morality, e.g., those espoused by longstanding Catholic Church teachings on sex and marriage.

What a shame. The good news is that more and more Americans despise the upside-down world of political correctness and the emerging “gay activist hecklers’ veto” that demonizes pro-family leaders and groups with the loaded accusation of being “anti-gay” and falsely smears them as being “hateful” merely because they uphold historic Judeo-Christian morality.

Enough is enough. Thank you, Mike Huckabee and Austin Ruse (Center for Family and Human Rights) for defying the intolerant “Gay” Censors! [Contact Huckabee HERE and Ruse at (202)393-7002.]

Personally, I believe Fox News and Bret Baier–as well as actor Gary Sinise and businessman Pete Coorsowe an apology to Legatus and all faithful Catholics–and defenders of biblical morality everywhere. Here is Legatus’ gracious media statement on the speakers situation. AFTAH will have more on this story. Folks, this is a wonderful and important interview by my friend Cliff Kincaid of America’s Survival’s with Robert Reilly, author of “Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything” [order through Amazon HERE]. The interview occurred July 4, 2014, which is appropriate as Mr. Reilly is an American patriot–having served this nation with distinction in the Armed Forces and in various esteemed positions including the director of Voice of America (2001-2002). Sadly, as Reilly states in this video, he would not even be considered for the top job at VOA–or any other government agency–today given the hysterical nature of pro-“gay” political correctness.

I’m finally reading “Making Gay Okay” and can already say that it is an immense contribution to the literature opposing the normalization of homosexuality in our culture. Go HERE to view the Ignatius Press page for the book. — Peter LaBarbera, AFTAH
